These bowls are made from white fibrous Satin Spar which is a variety of Gypsum. The stone is often called Selenite, although the two are closely related (They are both forms of Gypsum), Selenite actually grows in large clear crystal forms.
Satin Spar is a very delicate stone and can easily scratch and mark even with a finger nail. Any internal cracks can be seen and are natural cracks within the stone itself.
